Dr. Quinton Booker, CPA,

RESEARCH INTERVIEWS

Let's Talk About Dr. Booker

YUM! YUM! Dr. Quinton Booker at Jackson State University, whom is the BankPlus Professor of Accounting and Chair, in Department of Accounting has sit down with the researcher as he expresses his views on college life and healthy eating, what he feels are some of the improvements that could be made, and how he compares the healthy food choices at predominantly white institutions rather than at HBCU’s!

Dr. Booker is a certified accountant and has been in love with this job for quite some time, he explains, “I took a bookkeeping course in high school and fell in love with debits and credits and everything related to debits and credits,” he says. And it’s been love ever since, and everyone knows that when you love what you are doing it is the best way to work and love your job.

After he graduated high school, Dr. Booker continued his love for accounting and majored in accounting in college and that was just the beginning of a prosperous career for him. After he attained his undergraduate degree, Booker went on to get his Master’s in Accountancy and then earned his CPA credential shortly after.

After achieving all those certifications and credentials, Dr. Booker wasn’t done with school just yet, and most definitely not accounting. Dr. Booker returned to the classroom, as a teacher, after he earned his Ph.D. Dr. Booker has taught accounting courses at the undergrad, master and doctoral levels, as well as continuing education courses for CPAs. The CPA credential is “a badge of achievement,” he says. “It lets others know that you have arrived.” Though he has graced the Jackson State campus with his accountancy expertise, Dr. Booker received all of his degrees from Mississippi State University located in Starkville, MS.

A fun fact about Dr. Booker is that he not only shares his talents in the classroom but also outside of it by authoring or coauthoring more than 25 articles in various journals.

The Researchers Steps

When the researcher was given the task to choose a tenure track professor the researcher decided to take on the task having a sit down and interview Dr. Booker. After reading how well rounded Dr. Booker was the researcher knew that she had made the right decision to interview him. After setting up an interview she explained to him that the interview would only be 10 minutes but she also let him know that he could say whatever he wanted to about the topic, and after she made that statement it immediately opened a new relationship for us to take the job serious but enjoy having the conversation. Though it may be factual that the researcher enjoyed preparing for this interview but there were necessary steps that had to be performed in order for the interview to happen and in order for the interview to be a success. The process was no easy process like many others but this research is a pilot study meaning that this is a small scale preliminary study in order to achieve and predict results to improve upon the study itself.

The steps that had to be followed were as followed. After the researcher decided to interview Dr. Booker, she had to submit the name to his professor which had to be a tenured track professor that conducts active published research for approval, and that approval was by the researchers, research professor. Once the researcher received the okay to conduct the interview, which was a qualitative interview, she had to contact Dr. Booker to schedule a time to sit down and interview him. After that process had been complete the researcher, then, had to gather consent forms and ask for Dr. Booker’s signature. There were three consent forms in all. One of the three consent forms is a required consent form to conduct this interview in general. The researcher then, informed Dr. Booker that the interview was completely voluntary and that he could stop at any time he wanted to. There was also an audio consent form that required Dr. Booker’s signature which allowed the researcher to record the interview and publish it to one of several video media sites such as, YouTube or Audio boom. The researcher began the interview with six demographic questions. The questions included what are the interviewee’s age, gender, education, race, ethnicity and etc. It also included how often does the interviewee eat on and off campus and why. Dr. Booker had to complete these questions by filling out the multiple choice questions before the researcher asked the initial research questions for the interview.

After Dr. Booker finished the demographic survey questions, the researcher began to ask questions. Dr. Booker stated that he was aware of the unhealthiness around HBCU’s like Jackson State University, and that HBCU’s should start taking the initiative to eating better.
